a surprising valentine

I must admit my husband and I don't do Valentines day. I think it's the commercialisation of it that we protest. However I have cooked heart pasta and bought chocolate roses from Aldi in the past as a bit of a laugh. Anyway as I was putting together ideas using the Good Neighbours Sale-A-Bration set I came across Stampin' Up!'s CEO Shelli's Gardner's challenge which was to create a valentines and if possible to use colours other than pink. Well I generally don't do pink either so having used Rose Red, Bashful Blue and Going Grey on this card it seemed to fit. The little house with the heart on it and this sentiment from the Hostess Set "Sweet Little Sentiments" on the little road in the card all seemed to point to me giving it to my hubby as, dare I say it, a "Valentine's" card. Perhaps I'll give it to him the day before and say it's just an I love you card. Problem is he reads my blog everyday so I think I'll have to give it to him before I post this!!! I love this little saying, and being on the road signifies us travelling the journey of marriage and life together heart to heart and hand in hand.
Inside I have written "where ever your heart is that's my home" plus a few other things but I won't tell you those :)

starts today!!! Here is a card I made using the stamp set Good Neighbours. Good timing for us as I have a new neighbour right next door! I used a Rub On from the Chit Chat set in the Summer mini for the perfect phrase.
If you've not heard of S-A-B before it's Stampin' Up!'s fantastic annual promotion. This time it runs from January 25th til March 31st. For every $100 you spend on SU! product you can choose a stamp set. There are 4 to choose from. Spend $200 choose 2 etc. To see the other sets click here. Another way of getting one free is hosting a workshop with sales total of $600. As the hostess you get to choose one of the S-A-B sets without having to spend anything, plus of course the regular hostess rewards, which for a $600 workshop would be $70 to spend in the catalogue and a Level 2 Hostess Set. You don't even have to host a workshop in your home. You can have a catalogue party where you take a catalogue around to your friends, work colleagues, relatives, neighbours etc. and gather orders that way. The other part to this promotion is for those interested in becoming a Demonstrator. If you join Stampin' Up! during S-A-B you can choose an extra stamp set worth up to $79.95 as part of your kit. There are may ways to be a Demonstrator (you don't have to do workshops or classes) so please feel free to ask. All questions are welcome. So contact me if you are interested in doing any of these options. Back with more samples soon.

Stampin' Up! Christmas party

The Stampers Anonymous (the team I am part of) Christmas party was way back at the beginning of December but life has been so full on since then I feel like I am still catching up - on my blog anyway! Sue hosted, helped my Noreen, Marelle and several others who brought dishes. It was a great night. Aside from the delicious food and fine company one of the highlights was the Secret Santa gifts. Some of the gifts were absolutely incredible. I was a lucky girl and this was my gorgeous tote.
And this is what was in it! Plus a Slit Punch which has already disappeared into my stash. I had no idea that the sponges were that big - that's just one wrapped in the Chocolate Chip paper and you get 3 in a pack! Apparently they are best used chopped into quarters.
This is the card Marelle made - so clean in style. And the card at the top is from my downline Sam- love it.
As we left Sue's we were given this cute tote with puddings and fruit cake - yum!!! Talk about spoilt !
And this cute jumbo paperclip. Check out this gift!!! Each drawer full of goodies! If you want to be part of this this year email me to find out how to become a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and you can join this team too. Trust me you won't regret it.

A first christmas wedding ornament

If you've followed my blog for a while this will look familiar to you. With the help of many others I made the invitations and orders of service for my nephews wedding in July. I managed to have a few extra emblems which I thought would be nice on an ornament I had left over from last years mini out at Christmas time. I covered the chipboard with Taken with Teal ds paper I had (again from last years mini) which I had embossed with Baroque Motifs using Silver ink and powder. Using the Short Order Alphabet I stamped in Stazon and cut them out and coated them with Crystal Effects after I had attached them.
On this side I embossed the whole chipboard with Silver ink and embossing powder. It kind of came off with a textured effect which I wasn't originally intending but I went with it. I then used Short Order Numbers to put the year on. To add a bit of bling I used my 2way glue pen to go around the edges and then dipped it in Dazzling Diamonds which really finished it off nicely.
Finally I had a tin I had covered when I had started making things for the wedding but had not thought of a use for it at the time but it turned out to be the perfect container for the ornament. On goes another spare emblem and some ribbon - job done. It was just as well I had the tin as I only finished it off on Christmas afternoon about two hours before I gave it to them so it needed the tin to protect the Crystal Effects still drying!
Can you tell I work to deadlines? I wish I didn't! Could be something I work on this year.....

I'm back & hoping you have a SUPER New Year!

We managed to get away for Christmas - New Year and one night last week to celebrate with both of our families. Christmas and New Year we spent in Forster with my mum, my sister and her family and my brother and his family. Sadly no beautiful photos of gleaming blue water and sparkling skies - it rained pretty much every day of the 10 we were there - but we still managed lots of fun things - ten pin bowling, beach walks in the rain, a movie, swimming in the rain, all you can eat buffets at Port Macquarie, dancing in the rain, shopping, dress ups ( I know it's cruel but oh so funny!)... see... It was different without Dad and we missed him terribly but we remembered a lot about him too and how much he would enjoy family gatherings and always have lots of fun. We had glowstick bracelets and necklaces for new year and we could remember him wearing them, lopsided and leading the singing of Auld Lang Syne when midnight came. We always get out the sparklers after midnight and yes the boys stayed up - without any ill effects - amazing stamina - or it could have been a sugar high! I was very pleased that I managed to make pretty much all my Christmas cards this year. I did lower my expectations and only did them for family and friends we do not see regularly. Mind you I only got them out the weekend before Christmas - something I intend to improve on this year!
Will be back soon with more reflections on Christmas. Hope you are enjoying the New Year.
