Convention 2009 Canberra

Well I'm back and I know it was only 4 days but it feels like I've been a way for a week. I feel refreshed and re-inspired to create beautiful things. So the fun started on Thursday lunch time when a group of other demos, Jennifer, Rosanne, Jane and I, piled into Jane's comfy Odyssey and headed for Canberra.
Now you may wonder at the end of my recap whether the weekend was really about stamping or more about food but the highlight of our trip there, aside from seeing a live wombat eating grass beside the highway, was a stop for lunch at Berrima and the gorgeous pastries we had there. I just had to take a photo. If you're ever in Berrima it's the pie shop with the red phone box outsidethe red phone box, which actually doesn't have a phone in it...
the pie shop...the citrus tart, which went on to become a theme for the weekend....and my fruit flan...mmmm...
so we settled into our hotel and caught up with other demos at a local Thai restaurant that night then came home to eat the extra citrus tarts we'd bought on our way down. Count - Citrus tarts: 2 Scales: 0 Next morning we were at Convention bright and early - 8:00AM SU! you are mean! - many of us mums, finally away from our kids and very deserving of a sleep in but there was none to be had! Anyway after checking in and receiving our gorgeous Convention bag (photo coming soon) people were swapping to their hearts content. Swaps are a way of getting a whole range of samples various colour schemes using a wide range of stamp sets and accessories/ it's always fun to see what people do for swaps. I'm sure you'll see on many other blogs what people did for their swaps over the coming days. We then went to Memento mall to see the offerings and found a gorgeous umbrella, will show you soon, thankfully I don't have an umbrella of my own so this was actually a justifiable purchase! A very nice cardigan, which will show off my baby bump very nicely, some cute pens and a very handy, and sweet, calculator. There were several other things that were very cute too. The rest of the day was spent listening to Shelli, the co founder of SU!, watching demonstrations, learning new techniques which I am looking forward to showing at my upcoming workshops, listening to business tips and doing Make and Takes. We had a rather large team dinner that night at a local pizza restaurant - I think there was over 70 of us and, thanks to Jayne Mercer who organised it, it was a great night. For dessert there was a selection including rocky road slice but I managed to get... citrus tart! Count - Citrus tart: 3 Scales:0 So day two, the Saturday, started a little more civilised at 9am with my upline, Marelle, giving a demonstration on main stage as to how she runs workshops. She was wonderful as always and had heaps of great ideas and such a natural way of showing how much and why she loves doing what she does. We then had more demonstrations, hot chocolate and lunch where most of our team met up around the table. The afternoon was all together watching Shelli stamp Shelli and me and other fantastic inspiring demonstrations and talks from other SU! staff from the US. That night we had the awards dinner so back to food now, it was delicious and what was the dessert? citrus tart of course Count - Citrus tart: 4 Scales :0 then into the theater to clap and cheer those who had achieved either high sales, high levels of recruits and the heart of SU! award for a demo who has given a lot of time and shown care towards a special cause or person. We cheered our team leader, Marelle, who has built her business very successfully with a lot of hard work and was rewarded with being named the 8th top demonstrator in Australia. We are very proud of her and glad to be in her team. Then after a very heartfelt thank you from Shelli to all demonstrators, hobbyist to business builders alike, we partied on in the foyer of the Crowne til we could party no more. The next morning Jane dropped me at the Big Merino, Goulburn (sorry this was the only shot I got, I know not the best view) where my hubby met me and we spent the rest of the day visiting his brother and nephews. I missed out on the return visit to Berrima's pie shop - very sad. Today my body had just about gone through the withdrawal symptoms of citrus tart cravings when at our team catch up what does Jane bring out for me but two little tarts from the Berrima shop - AWESOME! They were going to be for dessert tonight but I'm afraid they haven't quite made it :) Count - Citrus tart: oh I give up! scales you lose and I've got to go to the obstetrician this week where I get weighed and he gives gold stars if I've put on the right weight range - bugger! I'm guessing no gold star this month...maybe I'll draw a citrus tart on my card instead :)

Hey Kirrily.

Nice one. I noticed there were no citrus tarts left here after you ladies left on Monday....hmmmm. Very enjoyable description of the convention - glad you had a good time. Can you give me a call sometime please, I have a HUGE favout to ask.
Thanks! Dave aka "up" uplines husband.

I'd choose citrus tarts over gold stars anytime!

How yummy are citrus tarts. Did you go to Dobsons bakery and check out all the yummy tarts there? It was great to meet you, if only for a short time. Glad you had a blast with your team. Convention goes by way too quickly. All the best with the baby bump! Take care x
